Episode Guide
24/Kevin Don’t Be A Bitch What Happened In Vegas Bulletproof This Has To Work Kingdom of Kevin Time is the most valuable resource in the world. Few people actually understand the importance of using your time wisely and for me, it’s the difference between those who achieve at the highest level and those who don’t. Kevin Hart is a man who seems to understand this. Unfortunately his excellent appreciation of time comes with a whole host of baggage and controversy, that’s explored in all its ugly glory during this 6 episode docu-series. Combining archival footage from his comedy routines and news reports, fly on the wall reality shots behind the scenes and childhood home videos, Kevin Hart: Don’t Fk This Up this up is a realistic and interesting portrayal of a man desperate to go down in history as one of the greats. The documentary itself wastes little time addressing the elephant in the room; the Oscar scandal last year and ensuing wave of controversy surrounding that. From there, we cut back to July, 3 months before the scandal occurred and follow Kevin on his journey to this point. The first episode tackles his family life and upbringing, progressing through to his relationship with his Father and wife, with the latter seeing their relationship strained after yet another scandal involving Kevin cheating on his then-pregnant partner. The final episodes look at Kevin’s comedy and film career before turning back full-circle to the Oscar scandal again and dedicating the final 30 minute episode to that, ending things on an uplifting and positive note. For the most part, the documentary progresses well and there’s certainly no shying away from the controversy that seems to follow this famous comedian everywhere he goes. For that alone, Don’t Fk This Up has a pretty aptly titled name and the various people interviewed aren’t all gushing and heaping praise on Kevin Hart either, which is refreshing to see. Hearing his personal trainer brush aside Hart’s accomplishments and berate him for being late or his work colleagues sitting down and questioning his handling of the scandals adds a sense of impartiality to the series, helping to level out this highly opinionated and driven public figure. Whether Kevin Hart will remain out of trouble in the foreseeable future or not remains to be seen but right now, it’s hard to take away any of the accolades this talented comedian has accomplished. With great power comes great responsibility, as the infamous Uncle Ben in Spiderman proclaims and this is a lesson Kevin Hart has learnt the hard way. With an esteemed movie career, sell-out comedy tours around the world and a thriving business, Kevin Hart is living the dream. Don’t F**k This Up isn’t a particularly groundbreaking documentary but it is an enjoyable and insightful one, making for a really entertaining watch across the 6 episodes.
